Yes. I understand that they have already started creating the new themes and it should be available relatively soon. In the meantime you can absolutely start working on SmartGWT and when the new themes are ready, you can just use a new build with the new theme and your UI will render with the new look & feel without any code changes.

Thanks building SmartGWT, thanks for guiding a migration path, but I think the themes need more work. Most of the times, they are just way too colorful or have too intense gradients or are simply not "easy on the eye".

The day Ext-like LnF (consistent grey/blue vista-like) is part of SmartGWT, I will migrate my app as fast as I can. I just cannot "downgrade" the user experience right now for a better UI-Architecture that the user wont "feel". I cannot defend investing resources into that in front of my boss.

Nevertheless thanks for your work! I am sure the theme-issue will be fixed soon enough by the Isomorphic guys!

Rather than abandoning GWT-Ext and letting it slowly die, maybe some else wants to take the project over (or maybe a fork). Would that be an option? I'm mostly asking because we've invested quite a bit of time and money in rebuilding apps (from Echo2) using this framework.

SmartClient looks very cartoonish to me, not the modern and professional look of ExtJs. I'm very sad to hear that GWT-Ext is being pushed aside since you guys have done such a good job with it.

I understand where you're coming from. I've seen the drafts of the new SC gray skin and let me assure you that it is looking great and don't expect users to be disappointed.

As mentioned in the initial post, gwt-ext builds / releases with bug fixes and user contributed patches will continue. Having said that, if you or any other user is interested in becoming a gwt-ext commiter, please send me a message.

I find it pretty surprising and concerning that it took SmartClient a number of years to realize that the skin or themes are not visually right. Whereas the extjs look felt right from the start.

The standard response from SmartClient has always been is to wait for the next theme and then it falls flat. Hope, you have influence in this area.

I've shown the SmartGWT/SmartClient showcase to the people at work and the reaction has not been positive. I didn't have this problem with gwt-ext.

I do like the SmartGWT library and the interface.

I downloaded it just now and both winrar and 7-zip extracted it fine. Maybe you got a broken download?

I agree that the current skins don't live up to the high standard of the rest of the library in terms of API's and functionality. The users have spoken loud and clear regarding the skins and the SmartClient folks are treating this as high priority. I'm giving my feedback as well. In the mean time please continue evaluating SmartGWT knowing that the SmartClient folks are committed to creating high quality skins, even if it requires a little further polishing after the initial release based on user feedback. The key takeaway for me is that they are listening and responding to user feedback very promptly.
